2.1 Understanding Secure Communication

The Secure Communication Module includes classes that use the SSL/TLS and HTTPS protocols, which protect data that is being sent over the Internet. The SSL/TLS protocols provide privacy and data integrity between two communicating applications by encrypting the data and by including a message integrity check. The HTTPS protocol is much like the HTTP protocol except for additional server name checking requirements when used over SSL/TLS sockets.
