Debugging Memory Problems with MemoryScape : Chapter 2 Memory Tasks : Task 1: Getting Started : Attaching to Programs and Adding Core Files : Attaching to a Process Owned by Another User
Attaching to a Process Owned by Another User
If you expect to want to attach to a process you do not own, you will need to start TotalView under root privileges. Also, that process will need to be linked with the Agent as described in the previous note.
Then, to attach to the process:
1 From either the Process window or the Root window, select File -> New Program.
2 In the New Program dialog, click Attach to process.
3 Enter the name of the executable program and the pid of the process you want to attach to.
4 Click OK.
TotalView attaches to the process, and when you enter or return to MemoryScape, the process will now appear in the process list on the Manage Processes and Home page, and on report pages.
