TotalView : TotalView Installation Guide : Installing a Flex-Net Embedded (FNE) License
Installing a Flex-Net Embedded (FNE) License

NOTE: These license setup instructions are for FlexNet Embedded (FNE) style licenses. Depending on the type of TotalView product purchased, you may be issued a FlexNet Publisher (FNP) style license or an FNE license. FNE licenses typically have the file extension .bin and FNP style licenses have the file extension .dat. You can validate the license type by running the utility toolworks_licensetype, providing as input the license file, e.g.,
toolworks_licensetype <licensefile>
If your license has a .bin extension or toolworks_licensetype reports it is a FNE license, proceed with this chapter. For an FNP style license, see Chapter 3, Installing a FlexNet Publisher (FNP) License, .

Note that FNE licenses are required for Linux PowerLE and ARM64. Other platforms can use FNE but do not require it.
Unlike TotalView’s other licensing type, FlexNet Publisher (FNP), FNE licenses can be served either by an FNE license server or installed locally on the system on which TotalView will run, called buffer-style.
NOTE: For a demo FNE license, see Installing a Demo License.
